Custom Mockup Generator

Canva Mockups Alternative

Canva can do almost anything, which is the reason to use it and occasionally the reason to leave. Mockups are one capability among hundreds, and a capability among hundreds is rarely the deepest version of itself.

Ranked for one job: how deep the mockup capability goes once you stop needing the rest of a design suite around it. Every tool below carries what it genuinely does better and the reader who should pick it instead.

Custom Mockup Generator

Set up your listing images once. Every new design comes back as the finished set, with your text, branding and logo already on it.

Where it wins
  • Your mockups can carry text, size charts and callouts, so the images you actually list are the ones being generated, not just the plain ones.
  • Your logo lands on every image in the set, same place, same size, without you nudging it into position eight times.
  • You define the set once. Adding a product reruns it instead of starting from scratch.
  • The scene adapts to your artwork. A red design picks up subtle red notes in the background, so every mockup is specific to that product instead of the same stock photo with your art pasted in.
  • Runs in a browser. No Photoshop licence, no plugin, nothing to install.
Where it stops
  • Newer than the big names, with a smaller ready made scene library than the giant template marketplaces.
  • Renders cost real money to produce, so the free tier is watermarked and metered rather than the flat unlimited price a template library can offer.
  • Built around a repeating listing set. If you only ever need one mockup of one product, that is more setup than the job deserves.
Pricing
  • FreeFreeWatermarked. A free account clears it
  • Paid$7/moStarting price

Checked 2026-08-03. Our own pricing.

Choose this if

Sellers whose listing images carry their own text, layout or branding, and who add products often enough that rebuilding them by hand has become the annoying part of the week.

Kittl homepage hero promoting AI-powered design for brands
#2

Kittl

An AI first design platform with a genuinely lovely type and vintage editor, plus mockups for showing the finished thing off.

Where it wins
  • A properly good design editor. If you are making the artwork as well as presenting it, Kittl does both without switching tabs.
  • Very strong on typography and vintage work, which is most of print on demand if we are honest.
  • A big template, font and graphic library comes with the paid tiers.
Where it stops
  • Mockups are a presentation feature inside a design tool, not a listing set you can rerun.
  • AI runs on tokens, so a busy month either costs more or stops early.
Pricing
  • FreeFree5 projects, 200 AI tokens, one time
  • Pro$15/moUnlimited projects, 2,000 AI tokens a month, 10GB
  • Expert$30/mo6,000 AI tokens a month, 100M+ assets, 100GB

Checked 2026-08-03. Monthly billing. Kittl advertises up to 33% off annually, and prices in your local currency, so what you see may differ.

Choose this if

Designers who want to make the artwork and present it in one place, especially type heavy work, and who are not regenerating the same set for every new product.

Pixelied homepage hero showing its browser design editor
#3

Pixelied

A browser design editor with AI image tools, where the product mockup library is bundled into the highest tier rather than sold on its own.

Where it wins
  • An annual price well under most monthly subscriptions here, with a general design editor included.
  • Background removal and AI image tools sit alongside the mockups, so light edits do not need a second tool.
Where it stops
  • Product mockups are locked to the top Pro+ tier, so the cheaper Pro plan does not do the job at all.
  • Mockups are one feature of a general editor rather than the focus of the product.
Pricing
  • FreeFreeBasic editor, 200+ templates, 2GB storage
  • Pro$47/yrNo product mockups at this tier
  • Pro+$79/yrAdds 2000+ product mockups

Checked 2026-08-05. Billed annually. Product mockups are Pro+ only, which is easy to miss when comparing headline prices.

Choose this if

Anyone who wants a cheap annual design editor first and treats product mockups as a useful extra rather than the main job.

#4

Smartmockups

Absorbed into Canva. smartmockups.com now redirects to canva.com/mockups.

A long running mockup library that got folded into Canva. The standalone product is gone.

Where it wins
  • The scene library was well liked and most of it lives on inside Canva Mockups.
Where it stops
  • Not available on its own any more. Existing users were moved across to Canva.
Pricing
  • DiscontinuedNot publishedNo longer sold separately, see Canva Mockups

Checked 2026-08-03. The domain redirects to Canva, so there is no independent pricing.

Choose this if

Nobody new. If you came looking for Smartmockups, Canva Mockups is where it went.

Mockuuups Studio homepage hero showing its mockup library
#5

Mockuuups Studio

A device and apparel mockup library with desktop and design tool plugins, aimed at product designers rather than sellers.

Where it wins
  • Plugins for the design tools you already have open, plus a desktop app, so mockups happen without a context switch.
  • Exports stay usable after you cancel, which makes one paid month a legitimate way to buy.
Where it stops
  • The free tier requires attribution, so it is not usable on a commercial listing.
  • Catalogue leans towards devices and screens rather than the apparel and packaging a print on demand seller lists.
Pricing
  • FreeFreeLimited set, requires attribution
  • Professional$15/mo$120/yr if billed annually. 5,300+ mockups
  • Team$20/moPer user. Adds SSO and unified billing

Checked 2026-08-05. Exports remain usable after cancellation, so a single paid month is a viable purchase.

Choose this if

Product and UI designers presenting app or device work, especially anyone who wants mockups inside their existing design tool.

BulkMockup homepage hero showing its Photoshop mockup plugin
#6

BulkMockup

A Photoshop plugin that swaps Smart Objects across your templates and batches out mockups fast.

Where it wins
  • Seriously fast at volume. Batching hundreds of Smart Object swaps is the whole point of it.
  • Works with templates you already own, including ones you built yourself.
  • One flat price, unlimited generation, no per image metering.
Where it stops
  • Needs a Photoshop licence and a local install. It is a plugin, not a website.
  • It swaps a Smart Object layer, so anything not already in the template (text, a size chart, your logo) is still your job.
Pricing
  • Monthly$15/mo2 devices, unlimited mockups
  • Yearly$77/yr2 devices, unlimited mockups

Checked 2026-08-03. 7 day money back guarantee.

Choose this if

Sellers already living in Photoshop with a template library, who need lots of plain artwork on product images.

Dynamic Mockups homepage hero promoting an API for automated mockup rendering
#7

Dynamic Mockups

Upload your own PSDs, generate in bulk, and drive the whole thing from an API if you have a developer.

Where it wins
  • Bring your own PSDs, so your existing template look survives exactly as it is.
  • There is an API, so you can wire generation straight into an existing pipeline.
  • Built for bulk from day one rather than bolted on as a presentation feature.
Where it stops
  • You need the PSD templates first, which quietly assumes Photoshop skills up front.
Pricing
  • Not capturedNot publishedNot captured yet

Checked 2026-08-03. Pricing not verified yet, so this one stays off published pages until it is.

Choose this if

Teams who already have PSD templates and a developer, and would rather generate through an API than a UI.

Photoroom homepage hero promoting product image editing at catalogue scale
#8

Photoroom

AI product photo editing at catalogue scale: background removal, generated scenes, virtual models and batch processing, metered in credits.

Where it wins
  • Built for catalogue scale, with batch processing and export limits in the thousands rather than the dozens.
  • Background removal, generated backdrops and virtual models in one tool, so a product photo can be finished without a second app.
Where it stops
  • Starts from a photograph, so it cannot produce an image of a product you have not made or shot yet.
  • Metered in credits and exports, which makes a heavy listing month a budgeting question rather than a flat cost.
Pricing
  • Pro₹167/moBilled yearly. Struck-through monthly rate shown as INR 299
  • Max₹334/moBilled yearly. 3,800 AI credits, 3,000 exports
  • Ultra₹7,159/moBilled yearly. 20,000 AI credits, 10,000 exports
  • EnterpriseNot publishedCustom, contact sales

Checked 2026-08-06. Captured from an Indian IP and priced in INR. Photoroom geo-localises, so a US reader will see different figures and a different currency.

Choose this if

Sellers with a large catalogue of real product photographs who need them cleaned up and staged consistently at volume.

Flair.ai homepage hero showing AI-directed product photography scenes
#9

Flair.ai

A drag and drop canvas for AI product scenes, with custom models you train on your own product and a genuinely free tier.

Where it wins
  • A real canvas rather than a theme picker, so you can compose the scene instead of choosing from presets.
  • Custom models trained on your own product, which is the closest thing here to a consistent look across a catalogue.
Where it stops
  • The commercial licence starts at the Pro+ tier, so the cheap plans are not usable for listings you sell from.
  • Works from product photographs, so it cannot picture a product that does not exist yet.
Pricing
  • FreeFree1 custom model, 5 generated images, 1 video
  • Pro$8/moFaster rendering, upscales and variations
  • Pro+$26/mo80 generated images, commercial licence
  • Scale$38/mo150 generated images, API early access

Checked 2026-08-06. Instant and ad generation consume 4x the image quota, so the headline image counts are a ceiling rather than a budget.

Choose this if

Brands who want art directed product scenes and are willing to learn a canvas to get precise control over composition.

Pacdora homepage hero showing 3D packaging templates and dielines
#10

Pacdora

Packaging specific: 3D dielines, box mockups and structural templates, aimed at people designing the box rather than printing on a shirt.

Where it wins
  • Dielines and 3D structural templates, which no general mockup tool on this page offers at all.
  • Genuinely deep on packaging: boxes, pouches, cans and labels rather than a handful of token box scenes.
Where it stops
  • Packaging only. It is the wrong tool entirely for apparel, print or devices.
  • No free plan, so evaluating it costs money before you know whether the dielines fit your product.
Pricing
  • Lite$9/moBilled $108 annually. 300 AI credits a month
  • Pro$17/moPer seat, billed $199 annually. 3,000 AI credits
  • Business$59/moPer seat, billed $708 annually. 10,000 AI credits

Checked 2026-08-06. Page states prices are in USD regardless of viewing country. No free plan; Pacdora explains on the page that it deliberately does not offer one.

Choose this if

Anyone designing physical packaging who needs a correct dieline as well as a pretty render, especially for boxes and pouches.

Should you switch from Canva Mockups?

Be honest about whether the suite is earning its place. If you also make the social posts, the presentations and the printables in Canva, adding a second subscription for mockups is a bad trade and you should stay. If Canva is open purely because it is where the mockups are, you are paying for a design suite to use one drawer of it, and almost anything on this page will do that drawer better.

When Canva Mockups is still the right choice

Stick with Canva Mockups when

  • You use Canva for the other ninety percent of your design work, not only the mockups.
  • The free plan covers your volume, which for occasional mockups it usually does.
  • Your team already works in Canva and shared brand assets live there.
  • You want one subscription rather than one tool per job.

Consider switching when

  • Canva is open purely because that is where the mockups are.
  • You are making the same listing images repeatedly rather than one-offs.
  • You need something the suite does not model at all, like a packaging dieline.
  • The scene library is the limit and you keep reaching for the same few templates.

Moving off Canva Mockups

Nothing technical has to move, because mockups leave Canva as flat exports rather than as a format anything else would read.

The thing worth checking first is what else you would lose. Brand kits, shared team assets and the rest of your design work all live in the same account, so leaving for mockups alone usually means running both rather than replacing one. That is fine, and it is cheaper than it sounds if the second tool has a free tier. Try before you cancel anything.

The honest verdict

Canva is the correct default for most people and this page is not trying to talk you out of it. A suite that does mockups adequately and everything else well is a good deal, and the free plan makes it a hard one to argue with.

The case for leaving is narrow and specific: you have stopped using the rest of the suite, or you need something it does not model at all. Depth in one drawer is worth paying for only when that drawer is the whole job.

Frequently asked questions

Does Canva have a mockup generator?

Yes, and it absorbed Smartmockups, which is why the capability got noticeably better. It is available on the free plan, which makes it the cheapest starting point of anything on this page.

Is there a better mockup tool than Canva?

Better at mockups specifically, yes, several. Better overall, that depends entirely on whether you use the rest of Canva. A dedicated tool wins on depth and loses on everything the suite also does.

Can I put my own text on a Canva mockup?

Yes, Canva is a design editor so text is trivial. What it does not do is remember that arrangement as a reusable set, so across a catalogue you are placing the same text again for each product.

Do I have to cancel Canva to use another tool?

No, and usually you should not. Most people who move mockups elsewhere keep Canva for everything else, which costs nothing extra if the new tool has a free tier.

What can Canva not do for mockups?

Two things stand out. It has no saved listing set that reruns for a new product, and it has no structural modelling, so packaging dielines are outside its scope entirely. Both are the kind of gap a suite is expected to have.
